Meet Mountain Perinatal

Winnie the Pooh once said, "A grand adventure is about to begin." And we couldn't agree more.

We see, and we care! We know that pregnancy can be hard, even when it’s normal. Birth is hard. New and experienced motherhood is very, very hard. And it takes a village. We thank you for choosing us to be a part of your village.

We believe that informed decision making between a mom and her care team is vital to her health and crucial to the best possible birth outcomes. We are by your side, climbing along with you on that trail of motherhood.

Our commitment to you

At Mountain Perinatal, you’re treated as an individual, and your care team is valued and respected. Our office is a welcoming and safe environment. This focus on service and informed consent sets us apart in the range of choices for perinatal care during pregnancy.

Our Team.

Dr. Kathryn Sharma, founder and perinatologist

Dr. Kathryn Sharma has a bachelors in History from University of California at Berkeley. She completed medical school at Drexel University in Philadelphia, residency at LAC+USC Medical Center, and fellowship at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles. She is double board-certified in Obstetrics and Gynecology and in Maternal-Fetal Medicine, also known as perinatology. Alongside patients’ primary obstetric providers, she co-manages both low- and high-risk pregnancies to optimize care and outcomes for the mother, her baby, and her team.

Kathryn and her family made Kern County their second home during the pandemic. She is a married mom of three and also “mom” to one fur baby, a turtle and (at last count) 15 chickens. When not helping care for pregnant women, she enjoys running, yoga, hiking, crafts, and audiobooks.

Alexis Coleman, practice director

Alexis is a mother of three young children. She is a proud graduate of California Lutheran University with a master’s degree in business administration. She has 10+ years of leadership experience helping teams achieve quality while prioritizing empathy and care.

She is excited to bring her experience to Ocean Perinatal, as she finds joy in helping others and working with a team for a purpose. In her free time, she loves to hike, read and volunteer with AYSO soccer and PTSA nonprofit organizations.

Janeth Ramirez, patient services coordinator

Janeth is a married mom of two girls and four fur babies. Born and raised in Ventura County, Janeth moved to Bakersfield in 2019. She would describe motherhood as one of the hardest things that one can do but also as one of the most rewarding. She loves working with patients and being able to provide a great experience through their motherhood journey. When not working Janeth enjoys traveling, going out and exploring new places with her family.

Anahi Trujilo, patient experience lead

I’m passionate about Maternal Fetal Medicine—a field that has been close to my heart for over a decade. Since beginning my healthcare journey in 2015, and focusing on OB/GYN and high-risk pregnancy care since 2017, I’m grateful to once again be supporting women and families through such a meaningful chapter of their lives.

Outside of work, I’m a proud wife and mom to three wonderful daughters, two playful dogs, and four lively goats—with plans to add chickens and ducks soon! Life keeps us busy (especially with travel softball for my oldest), but I treasure the quiet moments at home, often spent with a good book in hand.

Ashley Williams, perinatal sonographer

Ashley is a proud mother of two children. She has been an ultrasound sonographer since 2000, after attending West Coast Ultrasound Institute in Beverly Hills, CA. Her passion for perinatal sonography started during her own high-risk pregnancy. She loves helping give quality care to her patients during the journey through motherhood.

In Ashley’s free time she loves to travel, camp, and have lake days on the boat with her family and friends. Ashley is excited to be part of the team with Mountain Perinatal and to provide Kern County with high quality perinatal care.

Jenifer Abernathy, perinatal sonographer

Jenifer joined our team in December 2024, bringing over 20 years of experience in OB/GYN sonography throughout Kern County. Originally from the Central Coast, her journey into sonography began after her own high-risk pregnancy. “I had so many scans and was fascinated by what you could see and determine,” she recalls. That experience inspired her to pursue sonography school shortly after her daughter’s birth—and today, her babies are grown and heading off to college.

Outside of work, Jenifer is an avid animal lover who enjoys spending time with her many pets, gardening, and creating homemade pasta, sauces, and limoncello. On her days off, she can be found visiting her kids in college, spending time with friends, or relaxing by the ocean—“I’ll always be a beach girl at heart.”
